The Prevention Division is committed to preventing injuries from happening.
When a building is being built or renovated, the plans are reviewed carefully
to be sure the proper building materials, fire protection and alarm systems
are being included. After the building is occupied, it is assigned to a fire
inspector based on it’s location in the city and based upon the type of occupancy,
may receive a fire inspection once a year. Some occupancy types are inspected
once every two years. Safety education classes are available for businesses
and residents ages 3 and up on a variety of topics. Youth firesetting is a
problem in every city. The Prevention Division provides education and
support services to youth firesetters and their families. Fire investigations
are also the responsibility of the Prevention Division.
